Atlantic City’s rebirth is taking off!

The casino industry isn’t dead in AC.  Atlantic City’s gambling industry overcame the closing of four casinos last year to post a 45 percent increase in gross operating profits and a higher occupacy rate for hotel rooms.  The industry reversed its fortunes by going from a $5.8 million loss in 2013 to a gross operating profit of $72 million in 2014 the figures show.  Operating profits are considered the clearest measure of the gaming industury’s overall financial health.

 

Matt Levinson, the chairman of the state casino control commission states, “this is a sign that gaming revenues are starting to stabilize while non-gaming revenues are growing”Seeing the success of Wolfgang Puck and Bobby Flay’s Atlantic City restaurants, other celebrity chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Guy Fieri and Steve Martorano have recently opened new restaurants in AC.

Harrah’s is currently constructing a $126 million water front convention center!

 

Tropicana is wrapping up a $35 million renovation project including an eye-popping, high tech light and sound show on the boardwalk.

 

Borgata is undergoing a $13 million renovation project including Festival Park, an outside music arena that opened this past spring.

 

Resorts is undergoing a $9.4 million expansion project

 

Bass Pro Shop at The Walk opened this spring creating 200 jobs!

 

 

The Steel Pier is currently building a mammoth 200 foot ferris wheel overlooking the Atlantic that will draw about 50,000 riders a month!  Due to open early 2016.

 

Stockton College purchased Showboat Casino Hotel and has plans on selling it to Glenn Straub. These two are currently working out the kinks.

 

Atlantic City’s new mayor, Don Guardian recently announced plans for a massive $50 million expansion in the Gardner’s Basin area of the city which includes 6 to 12 restaurants, boardwalk expansion and 30 to 40 shops.  Gardner’s Basin is one of the most beautiful areas of Atlantic City and is often compared to an underdeveloped version of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.  MORE INFO HERE

 

New Revel owner, Glenn Straub announces plans to turn the former casino hotel into the world’s largest waterpark with high-speed ferries traveling from Manhattan to Atlantic City.  Imagine a 57 story inside and outside water park overlooking the ocean.  No word when and if the $108 million project will take off but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

 

Mayor Guardian announced the construction of 500 new housing units including a possible $75 million entertainment complex consisting of a 7 screen movie theater, bowling alley, roller skating rink, restaurants, shops and parking built by Boraie Mixed Use Development and their partner The O’Neal Group which is headed by former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal.

 

Atlantic City is going green and is one of 50 municipalities nationwide that will compete for Georgetown University’s $5 million Energy Prize.  The prize challenges cities to reduce per-capita energy usage. AC has already started installing LED street lights and replacing gasoline cars in it’s fleet with compressed natural gas vehicles.

 

The entertainment in Atlantic City is definitely second to none with free beach concerts, The Miss America Competition and Parade, The Atlantic City Air Show, The World Championship of Sand Sculpting, countless wine & beer festivals, casinos, endless shows, the world’s longest boardwalk (first wooden plank was laid in 1870), 3D light & sound shows, fireworks, DoAC Beach N Boat $1 Million Fishing Challenge, Pro Beach Volleyball Invitational, awesome beach bars, Atlantic City Aquarium, Dolphin Watch Tours, parasailing and much much more!  All in a town that is open 24/7 and never sleeps!

 

 

The Pier Shops on the boardwalk was recently purchased by real estate tycoon Bart Blatstein and is currently being renovated into “The Playground”.  This 500,000 square foot attraction will have some of the coolest bars on the east coast along with two outside swimming pools ON THE BEACH, bowling alley, six music themed clubs, concert venue, restaurants, shops and more!  Blatstein, known for his success of the Piazza Schmidt’s project in Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties section says, “I promise you this will become the number one tourist attraction in Atlantic City.  This place can’t fail.  It won’t fail!”  The first phase called T Street opened on June 26th to raving reviews!  View a three minute video of this project …..
