New Future for Atlantic Club…
ATLANTIC CITY — A Pennsylvania development firm plans to transform the former Atlantic Club Casino Hotel into an entertainment complex that would include an indoor water park and a beach bar.
Endeavor Property Group is in talks to buy the now-shuttered building and surrounding property for an undisclosed price. The deal, if completed, would continue a revolving door of ownership at the Atlantic Club since the former Boardwalk casino closed Jan. 13, 2014, amid Atlantic City’s …economic crisis.
Endeavor attorney Jason Sieminski revealed Tuesday that the company’s wholesale redevelopment plan includes resurrecting the Atlantic Club’s hotel tower and possibly creating some condominium units.
“I think Atlantic City has a very strong future. Endeavor is excited to be part of it,” Sieminski said.
In addition to an indoor water park and a beach bar, Endeavor would like to add a wave ride and cafes to convert the property into an entertainment attraction appealing to both families and adults. There would be no casino gambling.
Sieminski and Endeavor executive Peter Monaghan made an appearance Tuesday at the monthly board meeting of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, the state agency that oversees Atlantic City tourism and redevelopment projects. The authority gave the Endeavor project a boost by endorsing a redevelopment plan introduced June 10 by City Council to convert the Atlantic Club property into an entertainment zone.
Mayor Don Guardian, who sits on the authority’s board, said Atlantic Club’s redevelopment would fit in with Atlantic City’s evolution from a strictly casino town to a more diversified tourist destination.
“It couldn’t be a more perfect readoption of this property,” he said.
Guardian said he particularly likes the plan for an indoor water park, an attraction that would draw more families to Atlantic City and also aid efforts to have the International Swimming Hall of Fame relocate to the resort town.
Endeavor, of Devon, Pennsylvania, is negotiating to buy the Atlantic Club complex and land across the street from TJM Properties Inc. Sieminski declined to divulge terms of the deal. However, he did say it would take about a year to redevelop the Atlantic Club if Endeavor buys it.
